Minis report U12s v Acklam 22/11/09

SUNDAY 22ND NOVEMBER 2009 – MATCH REPORT

Whitby U12’s travelled to Acklam  on Sunday for what turned out to be an evenly matched contest. Despite having the smaller pack Whitby were soon regularly winning the rucks through better technique.  Liam Swalwell and Richard Hare, putting in a lot of the hard work.  Alfie Husband playing in an older age group had a good game at scrum half and both centres of Jack Halley and Jordan Milne were making some strong runs.

It was stand off George Green who opened the scoring after a great run, breaking several tackles, and then converting his own try.  Poor tackling let Acklam back in through their big pack to make the half time score 7:7. The second half was still very even and only ill discipline by Whitby allowed Acklam to be in competition.  Despite having the slope it took another individual effort from George Green to force his way over which again he converted.

The match looked to be going Whitby’s way when a lack of concentration allowed Acklam to score with only seconds remaining and by converting with the last kick of the match the scores finished at 14:14.  This was a great performance by the whole of the Whitby team.  The scrums and rucks were working well and most of the tackles were well made.  The strong tackles and winning of the ball was clearly demonstrated by Man of the Match , Sam Graham.
