Whitby v South Park Rangers 12-12-09
Whitby – 50
South Park Rangers – 8
Whitby hosted South Park Rangers this week at the show field on a chilly but still day with the ground supple enough to cushion the falls but rigid enough for the quicker players to run around. Whitby had a flying start and within the first ten minutes they managed to score three try’s with two coming from the winger guy and one from Captain Oliver Roberts.
Whitby’s scrums were unsettled to start and South Park managed to perturb them enough to win some ball for themselves, but with unyielding tackling from Allgood, Watson and Russell their plays came to a swift end.
Whitby were constantly pressuring the opposition’s line with some good support work from John Harrison, and it soon paid off as Tim Richardson skipped and pranced his way through the defence to score. Another try soon came from Oliver Roberts after a good team effort with the forwards working tirelessly to secure the ball then it getting passed down the line to go over.
South Park finished the scoring in the half with a penalty and also a try after a ghastly kick from Captain Roberts saw him put Whitby on the back foot and not been able to recover quick enough. Roberts redeemed himself for his first half blunder with a lovely individual try with him chipping the ball over the defence and managing to pick it up again and go over the line.
The scrum started to function for once and after some good work from the Lonsdale, Ste Gildroy and Young saw the ball come back quickly and after a backs move marshalled by Allen saw Guy once again go over adding to his amounting tally of scores.
The next try was right off the top shelf with Whitby heaping the pressure on the line for some time but with patience and control the ball finally fell into James Gildroys hand who had a straight sprint to the line who beat any would be tacklers. Another two try’s came before the end with Coates going over and one more from Oliver Roberts taking his tally to 4 for the game. A good team performance this week from Whitby after a few shaky games, hopefully this is us back on track.
