U12s v Middlesborough 14-02-2010
REPORT
With a very heavy pitch and cold wet conditions the visit of Middlesbrough was never going to be an open flowing match. So it proved with both sets of forwards having to battle it out. However, Whitby's better technique in the loose ensured a regular supply of ball but good defence on both sides made for a very even contest. A wonderful tackle by Marcus Kelly on the opposition 5 metre line forced a Middlesbrough mistake which George Green was quick to convert for Whitby's first try, unfortunately being unable to add the conversion. A good move from the Middlesbrough half backs allowed them back into the game just before the break, to make the half time score 5-7.
In the second half the pitch deteriorated but Whitby stuck to their game plan and kept their discipline despite great provocation from the visitors. Strong defence kept Whitby at bay until the last minute when George Green collected the ball and beat several tackles before scoring a fantastic solo try which he converted to make the final score Whitby 12 - Middlesbrough 7.
Another great performance from the whole of the Whitby team in trying conditions with Patrick Hutton being named Man of the Match for several great runs and some solid tackling.
