Whitby v chester le Street 10-04-10
Chester Le Street – 7
Whitby was eager for another win this week as Gods fingers of sunshine shone down on the righteous players. With the ground been firm a fast and flowing tactic was brought in and Whitby were soon on the assault, a talented move from the backs involving Ed Richardson and Harry Pinder saw the flying Nick Beaumont go over the line but the referee decided not to award the try much to the bemusement of the Whitby players.
Whitby soon started capitalising on the Chester’s weaknesses and Darren Lonsdale, Shane Young and Matt Russell soon started puncturing holes in the Chester’s wall of defence. From a well worked lineout the Whitby forwards set up a rolling maul with managed to roll on for 25 meters with Chester struggling to control it, the forwards ungreedly passed the ball on to Steve Allen to conduct his merry men into a try scoring opportunity with Harry Pinder finishing it off in style.
Whitby’s scrums were holding well with the second row engine of James Gildroy and Matt Comber firing on all cylinders to orchestrate the scrums forward. The first half ended with a flurry on tries from Whitby, the first from the battering ram of Ed Richardson who went through the defence like an Arabian toad headed agama on hot desert sands. Then Harry Pinder with a straight sprint down the line like a Peregrine Falcon chasing down its helpless prey.
The plan in the second half game plan was exactly the same as it paid off so well in the first. Whitby gathered the kick off with Barney Allgood catching the ball and some excellent support work from Andrew Watson saw the ball was sit up well for Phil Stentiford to dispatch quick ball for Whitby to get straight back at Chester with the end result in the super fly winger Guy Taylor to go over. This seemed to fire Chester up and they came back strong with a series of quick rucks and some good support work saw them claw their way up the pitch which eventually saw them go over the line for a well earned score.
Again from good work by the forwards ended up with Richard Harrison forcing his way over for a try and getting the biggest cheers from the crowd. A couple more tries came from Whitby one from Phil Stentiford who found no-one in front of him so he galloped away for an uncontested try, and one from Captain Oliver Roberts who minced and pranced around the defence like ballerina in an audition for Swan Lake.
Another good result for Whitby with another 50 points to add to the tally, only one more game to go, so let’s go out with a big win.
