Whitby Harlequins 58 Old Jarrovians 24

The Harlequins entertained touring side old Jarrovians last Sunday and the large crowd were treated to a feast of fast flowing rugby .Whitby did start rather badly as from the kick off Whitby failed to gather in the ball and the large visitors pack pilled in and scored straight away.Whitby soon levelled though when Pete Stentiford and Oliver Roberts Linked well to put Matt Morris over in the corner by half time Whitby were running away with the game with matt morris scoring his second folled by Edward Goose,Shane Young,Jim Fountain and big Jock Harrison after a 50yd run to build up a big lead.Whitby lost influential hooker Jim Fountain with a neck injury at half time and Matt Morris to a stomach injury these changes spured on the old Jarrovians who started the second half realy well and Whitby were unable to get any possesion for the first ten minuets the visitors were making good use of this good spell of play and scored three good tries fromNeil Metcroft,Andrew Burns and Martin Benson.As the game went on though the  visitors started to run out of steam and Whitby once again cut loose with some fine rugby resulting in Oliver Roberts,Mario Spagnolio and Barry Heyes all scoreing.The visitors crossed one more time when Brian shaw crashed over before the play of the game from whitbys young Prop Dan Carens who ran from his own 22 breaking four tackles to unselfishly feed Dave Mahafey for an easy try under the posts.Over all a great game of rugby played in the right spirit.This Saturday the Harlequins take on their old foes Scarborough Fourths again at home ko 3pm meet 1.30.The Harlequins social secretary Dave Mahafey would like to remind all the Harlequin players the club dinner takes place soon and to please let him know if you are attending this year.
