Whitby Maroons v Seaton Carew - 25/10/08

Durham & Northumberland Div 3

Whitby Maroons 15
Seaton Carew 17

The Maroons played host to league leaders and unbeaten Seaton Carew on a day where running rugby was not possible as gale force winds caused havoc. Missing our second rowers from last week of Gildroy and Purvis, Matt Russell had to play out of position partnering the returning Jock Harrison in the second row.

The Maroons played a great first half despite losing 12 points early on but hit back with Phill Stentiford scoring in the corner and Harry Pindars darting run also scored an excellent try going uphill into the wind. But the conversions were virtually impossible to kick and that was it for any points scored. 10-12.

The visiting team started well and despite good tackling from Quinn and Parkin, they scored against the run of play. But the home side pressed well as Straker went through to score but was tackled well but the tackler slowed the play down and was not sin binned. The game became alittle scrappy as running rugby was impossible. Steve Allens booming kicks helped the home side gain valuable ground but a last minute try from close range set up Steve Allen to kick to draw but it wasn't to be. Seaton Carew are promotion favourites and left Whitby with 2 points as the home side should of won the game. The Maroons are unlucky but have still not produced their full team yet this season. The home side never gave up and gave a good performance but will learn from this game.
