Hartlepool Athletic v Whitby Maroons - 27/09/08

Durham & Northumberland Div 3

Hartlepool Athletic 0
Whitby Maroons 11

The Maroons travelled away with a bare fifteen as the second team were playing at home and needed some more players. The Maroons had the lightest back row ever but one of the quickest against a bigger pack. Dave straker was stand in captain in the absence of Joe Quinn lost the toss but were put in the half that the Maroons wanted to play in.

Hartlepool set off at a quick pace but then tired really quickly. Their pack pushed the visitors off the ball in the first 20 minutes and at 3-0 with a Steve Allen penalty the home sides energy levels faded. This gave the Maroons the edge as another Penalty by Steve Allen on the stroke of half time as the home sides scrum half was unluckily sent to the sin bin.

The Maroons upped the pressure in the second half with Matt Russell and Mark Parkin in fine form destroying any play possible. Allgood and Smith tackled well and was backed up by Harrison and Phill Stentiford. Richardson, Straker and Fountain attacked well off Steve Allens quick ball.

Steve Allens kicking display in the first half was excellent but in the second half two penalties went wide but from the restarting 22 metre kick was charged down and then gathered by Allgood who beat a couple of players to score out wide. Allens kick hit the post. with the Scoring all finsihed, Hartlepool never got near scoring all game but a long range wayward penalty their only attempt. The Maroons ended the game with a man down as Mark Parkin took one for the team and was sin binned. Well done to all players as the Maroons grabbed their first win and a clean sheet away from home.
