Scarborough v Whitby U16 - 13/09/09

Whitby Under 16's rugby      Sunday 13th sept

Scarborough 10 Whitby 43

Whitby visited local rivals Scarborough's new ground on a rather blustery day and started the new season with a winning performance Whitby were soon into their  stride and it didnt take long until Jack Braithwaite got the ball and scored the first try of the season after a 25m run.Although the Whitby team were playing well the forwards werent gelling but after some tactical changes they soon started winning more ball for the backs. A line-out on the 5m line gave Jack Braithwaite another opportunity to score when he won the ball from a Scarborough throw and crashed over the try line the try was converted by Sam Webster Whitby were now playing with more confidence and a 40m run by Alex Taylor started off a move finished by Alex Beaumont who still needed to run another 30m before he scored a breath taking try, this was also converted.

The second half saw Scarborough playing much more positively and they were awarded a penalty which they scored. But Whitby replied with the best try of the game  the Whitby team moved the ball through at least 7 pairs of hands before it finally reached Connor Clennan who scored in the corner Next followed a 10 minute period of pressure by Scarborough during which they scored a converted try but Whitby soon replied Steven Cuthbert picking up the ball from the back of a scrum and diving over the line a conversion saw the points gap restored Whitby now started to dominate the game and captain Alex Beaumont gladly received a ball won in the turn-over by the Whitby forwards and sprinted nearly half the pitch to score his second try and the following conversion was Sam Websters fourth of the game and there was still time for Matt Dudman to send some of the Scarbough players the wrong way with a couple of side steps before his try completed the scoring for Whitby
The Whitby coaches were very pleased with the teams acheivement and especially with the fact that every member of the squad played an important part in the overall performance
