All Whitby under 9 players today should be proud of their performances against Driffield,not only on the field where they battled heroically but also off it where they faced unsportsmanlike comments from the opposition after the match. It was disturbing to note that this went unchecked by the opposition coaches. Even more disappointing was the reaction of the Driffield coach on the touchline after Whitby scored a try in the second match.
This is where the spirit of our game must begin and it is the coaches' responsibility to instil this from the start, (along with the skills to succeed on the pitch.) Our players were naturally disappointed by their first resounding defeat but were more disappointed by the reaction of the opposition for whom winning at under 9 level for both coach and player was more important than participating in what remains a game.

To win is always nice,but to lose with spiritand dignity,is the best response you can give the gloaters.
Its a shame the Driffield Coach didnt see the harm he was doing when all around everyone else did and that rubbed off on the attitude of some of his players,who were too young to see the error of his ways.
Very sad.
